What’s Next After College Graduation?

  1. Get ready to be a grown up.
Because you will be entering a new chapter of your life, you need to learn how to deal with different kinds of people now. Trust me, they are better and worse than your college buddies. Better persons are those who will teach you become wise and will encourage you. Worse people can be the ones whom you thought only in movies exist as villains. Get ready for that.

  1. Get your budget in order.
You will be spending money just before you earn it. So be wise and be careful where you spend it for. You can get your requirements only if the company you are applying at needs it. If no, save it just in case you need to find another company. If they require you lots of documents, that’s the time you can spend your money for it. Just make sure it is worth it so do the # 3.

  1. Prepare well for job hunting.
Make sure that you have updated your resume. That will represent you before the interview. Wear a proper dress or suit on interviews. That impresses the interviewer especially with proper hygiene.

  1. Forget your pride for now.
Don’t think about the salary and position for now. Think about the experience you’ll gain. But make sure to choose the more practical and the work that fits your skills and personality.

  1. Think positive.
Keep the 90/10 principle in your mind. 90% of the happenings in the world are inevitable. 10% is your decision how you will deal with it. If that 90% seems to be negative, make the 10% positive to avoid worsening the situation. It will also help you to be more mature and patient. And those characteristics are one of the keys to success.

  1. Don’t forget your family.
As much as possible, spend your first salary with your family. They are the ones who supported you from the beginning. They deserve to be rewarded even with a simple dinner altogether. Aside from being happy that you already got a job, they will appreciate your thanksgiving by being with them with the first fruit of your labor.

  1. Make new friends and reach-out with your old buddies.
Of course you will be meeting total strangers in your first job. Don’t be afraid. Make friends with them. Chill and give them enthusiasm. If you are introvert, at least don’t snub the ones smiling at you. But first job can be so stressful. Call your college buddies to reminisce your crazy moments together while forgetting the present situation on your job even just for a while.

  1. Make a financial plan.
It’s a good idea to unwind, especially when stressed. But make sure to include it on your budget list. Also, save for your emergency needs so that you won’t wake up one day and realize that you don’t have anymore money to pay for a Jeepney fare or buy your lunch.

  1. Don’t stop learning.
There’s always a room for improvement as cliché says. Indeed. As long as you live, continue to learn things. When you mastered a thing, try something new. Don’t let the rust crawl all over your body and brain. Become better you.

  1. Pray.
Be always thankful for everything that you have. Always ask for guidance to do things ethically at work and to be motivated. Repent for every wrong doings you have committed. At the end of the day, it is God who managed everything. So lift everything and submit yourself to him and blessings will just follow.
